What if you could save hundreds of dollars, increase your home’s resale value, reduce your environmental footprint and be comfortable in your home year-round? Well you can, simply by installing an eco-friendly heat pump.
“Today’s heat pumps are up to five times more efficient than traditional systems,” says Don Gulevich, co-owner of Total Comfort Solutions. “They’re the most economical and environmentally friendly way to heat and cool your home.”
Total Comfort Solutions installs and services residential heat pumps in the Comox Valley. The first service company in Canada to switch to Mercedes-Benz Smart Cars as its primary service and delivery vehicles, Total Comfort Solutions has always held energy efficiency as a core value of its business.
Heat pumps are so efficient, says Gulevich, that the energy savings from switching to one will typically pay for the system in just five to eight years.
Heat pumps use an ozone-friendly refrigerant, rather than burning wood or fossil fuels, to keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In winter, heat is extracted from the air outside and transferred to an air-handling unit inside the home, which then distributes the warm air throughout the home. In summer, the process is reversed.
“Heat pumps produce a low-density heat, which heats your home more evenly and more consistently than other methods,” says Gulevich. “When you set your thermostat for a particular temperature, the fluctuation with today’s heat pumps is usually no more than half a degree in temperature.”
Just as important as a home’s overall environmental footprint, says Gulevich, is its indoor air quality. In fact, studies have shown that the air inside a home is commonly 25 to 60 per cent more polluted than the air outside.
“Families breathe in all sorts of microscopic nasties, like viruses, mould spores, formaldehyde and in some cases carbon monoxide,” says Gulevich. “That’s why we recommend getting an air quality analysis done. Then, if necessary, we can install an air purifying system to your heat pump or other HVAC system.”
